The German Pavilion: A Quick Walk Through.

I only really managed to see the interior exhibition space on my first walk around day on-site as after this my days were full enough never to have the option to go back in until the exhibition was 95% complete and even then i didnt have my camera with me so i got very few shots. I did manage however to get a few photo’s of the book tower Sharonah Luderitz and i developed back in November 2009 which is shown on the slide show below.

The German Pavilion also know as “balance city” expected 40’000 visitors a day on its 6000 m2 plot.

The German Pavilion

The German Pavilion @World Expo, Shanghai.

Not really sure what job title I earned for this one. I guess it could have been Project management, Site manager, could even have been Production manager, whatever the job description was I had a lot of fun with great people.

Nussli Germany was aware of the special attention needed to oversee the quality and detail of the exterior works and it would require a full-time Manager to keep the production on time.

The exterior team was put together of 8 German’s, 24 Chinese ,2 translators and myself. If I was to include the lighting crew, meshing crew, box planting crew, scaffolding crew and paving crew then this figure would have grown to over 100.

It was a tight 10-week project and it had to run like clockwork. The job had to finish on time regardless of what weather was thrown at us. We worked through Rain, Sleet, sometimes Snow…..there we were thinking Shanghai was tropical.

Production Coordinator

After Qualifying in “92″as an Architectural Technician i left the British building industry and went on world travel.  This somehow ended up taking me to Cannes, France during the famous Cannes Film Festival. For the next 12 years plus i worked as a Production / Project Coordinator for a British communication company. I was hired to employ capable individuals working to extreme deadlines. Consistently putting together successful teams of reprobates to get the job done for the exhibition and festival industry. As hard and tiring the industry is, it brings together great team players and is an enjoyment to be part off.
